RESPONSIBLE CARE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
(RCMS) VERIFICATION

Congratulations to the TSC Chemical Division for successfully completing the Responsible Care Management System verification!  We have an excellent management system which we continue to review and change through the continuous improvement process.  We have made it part of our culture and the way we do business every day.

We have not gone through this process to receive our verification credentials but to help Transport Service Co. continue to be a leader in outstanding Safety Performance.  Safety is number ONE at TSC.  RCMS verification is another example of our commitment to this goal.

Special thanks go to the people who went through the interview process.  Tom Hosty and I were very impressed with the attitude of the four terminals that were audited; Plaquemine, LA, Nederland, TX, Pasadena, TX, and Freeport, TX.  Each of these sites starting with our pre-audit, were very responsive and willing to be involved in this process and learn from the experience.  Tom and I gained a great deal as well.

Thanks to those of you at the TSC corporate office who spent time with Ron Lund, the RCMS verification auditor.  During his audit, he spent more time interviewing not just the managers but those of you who are on the line in handling the daily load responsibilities.

Ron Lund, in the issuing of our verification document, outlined some key strengths he saw through the audit.

  • "TSC has implemented a strong system of operational discipline that was evident at all terminal locations and voiced often by individual employees".
  • He did extensive interviews with drivers who were members of the 2 million mile club as well as with new drivers.  The thing which impressed him was the consistency of response and how the drivers prepared themselves and their equipment prior to taking a load.
  • He was complimentary toward the tractor safety technology we have to help our drivers be safer and how we use these tools successfully.
  • He was impressed with our incentive programs for our drivers, mechanics, and tank washers.  He also complimented our upper management and their commitment in supporting these programs.

Yes, we did have a few minor issues which we have addresses and taken corrective action.  We did not have any major issues.

Robert Schurer, Tom Hosty, and I want to thank each of you for helping achieve the completion of this successful audit.  You are the ones who make it all work.

Congratulations to all!
